WHO WE ARE
Mission
Create an environment where families transform their narratives from poverty to possibility
Vision
We envision historically deficient communities being holistically transformed, leaving a legacy of health, strength and prosperity.
Purpose
Provide resources and opportunities for neighborhoods to break cyclical poverty
The Full Story
Harvard and UC Berkeley conducted a study that evaluated the chance of upward mobility for those born into poverty in 50 US cities. They found that only 6% of those born into poverty were able to escape.
Legacy Impact exists to see those percentages changed. Legacy Impact is a nonprofit that holistically empowers families to rewrite their narratives from poverty to possibility. We consider the areas of housing, employment, education, and health as we collaborate with other organizations to invest in our neighborhoods.
After hearing from the community, Legacy Impact's first initiative is in the area of education. We are running English classes for adults in Georgetown South where 95% of the community speaks Spanish. Language opens doors for those in the community to have a voice and increased employment opportunities. As we invest in language learning for parents, they are able to invest in the education of their children in a greater way.
Our story is their story... the story of neighborhoods rewriting percentages and families impacting their own legacies!
